May 8, 2024 - Whatcom County Council is anticipated to vote in June on providing crucial funding for Birch Bay incorporation efforts through a feasibility study that would provide a clearer picture of costs associated with Birch Bay becoming its own city.
February 29, 2024 - Birch Bay is not a city. While nearly 9,000 people live in the 5-square-mile crescent of coastline south of Blaine, Birch Bay doesn’t have a mayor, a council, city ordinances or a police force. Kids travel 10 miles to Blaine every day to attend school. There’s no post office, nor is there even a U.S. Postal Service mail drop box anywhere in the area.

March 8, 2023 - Whatcom County Council did not make any changes to its law establishing two stop signs at the intersection of Birch Bay Drive and Birch Point Road during its March 7 meeting. Councilmembers and public works staff agreed to further research the topic, visit the intersection and discuss possible alternatives during a future council meeting.
October 26, 2022 - The 2022 Whatcom County Buildable Lands Report shows Birch Bay’s population and housing development are growing slower than the county expected. ...amendments will have to be made to increase the densities within Birch Bay’s existing boundary.
